{"id":81,"date":"2009-02-08T13:43:09","date_gmt":"2009-02-08T22:43:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marianjackson.com\/myblog\/?p=81"},"modified":"2012-05-25T06:28:24","modified_gmt":"2012-05-25T15:28:24","slug":"too-much-color","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/?p=81","title":{"rendered":"Too much color&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_82\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82\" class=\"size-full wp-image-82\" title=\"petalcrop1\" src=\"http:\/\/marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/petalcrop1.jpg\" alt=\"Too much color on edge of petal\" width=\"200\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/petalcrop1.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/petalcrop1-114x150.jpg 114w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-82\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Too much color on edge of petal<\/p><\/div>\n<p>OK, let&#8217;s analyze the problem.\u00a0 Seems to be to much color, the purple, and too much of a value change.\u00a0 It appears that a wee bit too much of the purple was added in the second layer.<\/p>\n<p>On these petals that are outside the center of interest, Beige was laid down over the entire petal to begin with, then Violet, then Sunburst Yellow.\u00a0\u00a0 The petal edge is presenting itself as purple which means that even with an overlay of Sunburst Yellow the color did not neutralize.<\/p>\n<p>If we add more color in layers over the top, trying to *fix* this,\u00a0 we will have one petal edge that is more burnished than any of the others.\u00a0 At this point, it might be wise to remove the purple area entirely, either with a kneaded eraser, or gently with an electric eraser and start again.<\/p>\n<dl id=\"attachment_85\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 117px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<p>The second layer should be applied really, really lightly and the end result should be a coolish, neutralized yellow and not purple.\u00a0 I quite like some cool accents throughout a painting so often leave them if they show as &#8216;slightly&#8217; purple, but they should be <em>interesting<\/em> and not <em>distracting<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_85\" style=\"width: 117px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85\" class=\"size-full wp-image-85\" title=\"mypetal\" src=\"http:\/\/marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/mypetal.jpg\" alt=\"My Petal\" width=\"107\" height=\"223\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-85\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My Petal<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Not only is there a value problem here, the purple is too dark against the background but also a temperature problem as the Sunburst Yellow has warmed it up.\u00a0 It needs to more closely match the cool grey background in both value and temperature so going over the final yellow with a\u00a0 cool grey might be very attractive.
