Shading and highlighting were added over the top of this base layer.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">Yellow on black does tend to display a bit on the greenish side, but with a good knowledge of color theory this is easily overcome by using a similar value of a red-orange pencil. I rather liked the temperature change from warm to cool.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-331 alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 4px; margin-right: 4px;\" alt=\"Prismacolor pencils with a white undercoat.\" src=\"http:\/\/marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/whiteundercoat-300x218.jpg\" width=\"182\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/whiteundercoat-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/whiteundercoat-150x109.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/whiteundercoat-600x436.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/whiteundercoat.jpg 981w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 182px) 100vw, 182px\" \/>I used an opaque Prismacolor White undercoat over the entire petal.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">When the yellow was added it was particularly bright. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">Shading and highlights are now being added on layer 4 and was a bit waxy as opposed to the feel of #1.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">The red turned pink over the white and required 2 good coats to cover. You can still see the white &#8211; at least I can, plus it changed the value.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">This was my least favorite of the techniques, so if I were going to use it, I would only add the white over the light area of the petal, and select different colors. The lack of intensity control bothered me but that might be personal preference. The petal is decidedly bright.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-332 alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 4px; margin-right: 4px;\" alt=\"Prismacolors with a Verithin White pencil undercoat on the light area of the petal only.\" src=\"http:\/\/marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/vpetal-300x229.jpg\" width=\"189\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/vpetal-300x229.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/vpetal-150x114.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/vpetal-600x458.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.marianjackson.com\/myblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/vpetal.jpg 944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/>I used a Verithin White undercoat only on the light area of the petal, leaving the black paper under the red.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">This gave a nice feel, very similar to using plain paper. When the yellow was applied, there was no waxy build up even though it was layer 2.\u00a0 Shading and highlights went on nicely. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">The reds were true value on the black paper.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;\">In conclusion, while this worked very well, I saw little difference from the Art Stix + Pencil on plain paper in image 1.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a particular fondness for black paper.\u00a0 Recently I have been using Black Stonehenge paper because it is lightfast.
